    The latest UK Powerhouse figures put Stoke-On-Trent employment growth above every metropolitan area in the UK including London, Manchester and Birmingham in 2020. In Irwin Mitchell's latest UK Powerhouse report, year on year jobs growth in Stoke-On-Trent is predicted to be 2.2% with employment levels reaching 122,000; meaning jobs growth in Stoke-On-Trent will be faster than all 46 major UK cities - including UK Capital Cities in 2020!

  • REC Report On Jobs: Recruitment activity picks up at the end of 2019

    The latest KPMG and REC, UK Report On Jobs showed that hiring conditions improved at the end of 2019. Permanent staff appointments rose for the first time in a year, while temp billings growth picked up from November. According to panellists, some firms had approved new hires following a long period of delayed decision-making and rising business requirements. However, rates of expansion were notably weaker than seen on average over the survey history.

    The latest Natwest Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) report for the West Midlands was published today and it shows business activity across the region fell for the second consecutive month in December.

    The West Midlands saw private sector business activity fall for the second month running in December, the latest PMI data from NatWest showed, matching the trend seen across the UK as a whole. However, the outlook is improving as the West Midlands posted a rise in new orders for the first time in four months and local firms reported stronger optimism towards future output.

    UK unemployment fell by 3,000 to 1.44 million in the three months to November, official figures from the Office of National Statistics show.

    The unemployment rate was 4.3%, down from 4.8% for a year earlier and the joint lowest since 1975.
