Cream Personnel gain their Gangmasters Licence

Tuesday, February 9, 2016

Cream Personnel has just gained their Gangmasters Licence, meaning that we can now supply workers to the following sectors:

  • agriculture
  • forestry
  • horticulture
  • food processing and packaging

Cream Personnel has always had an emphasis on compliance, ensuring that we operate above and beyond employment law and the regulations under the Employment Agencies Act. We have been members of the REC for over 40 years, an organisation that ensures their members operate with the greatest of integrity.  However to gain a Gangmasters licence confirms that we care and look after our temps.

The licence has been granted to us by the Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA). The GLA was set up to prevent the exploitation of workers, particularly by debt bondage and forced labour and to improve health and safety standards, in what had become an unregulated area of employment.

There are strict standards that an agency must pass to gain a licence, the licensing standards set out the conditions that you must meet to get a GLA licence.

The standards are all legal requirements to protect workers from poor treatment and exploitation. They cover issues such as working hours, training, terms and conditions, the national minimum wage (soon to be National Living Wage) and transport to ensure labour providers meet the basic safety and welfare standards.

There are also conditions attached to the licence holder, Jenny Muir, ensuring that she acts in a “fit and proper” way to hold a licence.

There are 8 standards covering the following subject areas:

  • Fit and Proper Test
  • Pay and Tax matters
  • Prevention of Forced Labour and Mistreatment of Workers
  • Accommodation
  • Working conditions
  • Health and Safety
  • Recruiting Workers and Contractual Arrangements
  • Sub-Contracting and Using Other Labour Provider

Labour providers must continue to comply with the licensing standards to keep their licence.

There are only 10 agencies throughout Staffordshire who are licensed by the GLA and we are one of them and we couldn’t be any prouder!

Working from offices in Stoke-on-Trent, Cream Personnel Services is a name that is synonymous with recruitment in North Staffordshire and South Cheshire. Established in 1973 we have become the first choice Recruitment Agency for job seekers and employers throughout the region.
